Europe’s new biggest shopping centre, Westfield Stratford, officially opened its doors, this morning.
The shopping mall, which covers 1.9 million square feet and features well over 300 stores, plays host to an array of high street names, including Ann Summers, La Senza, Wolford, John Lewis and M&S.
With 136,000 sq ft of selling space over four floors, M&S Stratford is one of the company’s largest stores.
Following the opening, Marc Bolland chief executive said: “Our store showcases the very best of M&S to an international audience, which is exactly why we are delighted to be an anchor retailer here at Westfield, Stratford City.
“The unique location of the centre has allowed us to create a special, one of a kind M&S store perfectly positioned to maximise on the excitement that next year will bring.”
Westfield, Stratford City features some of the new concepts that are being trialled under M&S’ previously announced pilot store plan. The store has created over 550 new jobs for Stratford, and store manager Lee Boon has recruited a team of employees with over 1,000 years of retail experience between them.
After the opening celebrations, Boon said: “I am immensely proud to be leading a great team of people in the most important new M&S store for some time. Together, we have built an amazing store for our customers that we hope will surprise and delight them.”
Nicole Scherzinger performed at 11am, this morning, to mark the official launch of the centre, which is putting on a series of event to mark its opening week.
On September 16, Westfield will hold the Look Show in conjunction with London Fashion Week. It will be the only LFW show that is open to the public and will exhibit a series of high street brands. Sarah Harding is expected to put in an appearance.
