Web retailer's lingerie sales rocket to £13m

Geordie Shore beauty Marnie Simpson has been unveiled as the new face of Lovehoney Lingerie.

The move comes as the Bath-based outfit revealed that a third of its £40m turnover now comes from lingerie – some £13m a year.

Simpson is the first star of Geordie Shore to front her own lingerie collection and, according to Lovehoney Lingerie designer Heather Mercer, she was chosen because she is likeable, down-to-earth and has a ‘real figure.’

“Lovehoney Lingerie is all about making women of whatever size feel amazing,” said Mercer. “We thought Marnie was the perfect fit because she is a fun girl who has great body confidence.”

Lovehoney began making its own lingerie a year ago and now claims its in-house collections are the best-selling pieces on the site.

Simpson’s first modelling assignment with the internet retailer involves the autumn/winter ‘Enchant Me’ collection, which is inspired by Russian love stories.

The shoot took place just five weeks after she underwent surgery to improve a breast uplift operation from two years ago. “I am really happy with my body at present and the lingerie is lush. It is great to wear and it makes me feel incredibly sexy.”

The Enchant Me collection includes a £33 basque in midnight blue and black; £25 babydolls in pink, plum, red and black satin; bra and knicker sets in black, red and plum; and a £25 robe and lacy suspender belts. It has been designed for women of all shapes, and sizes range from 6-24.
