Lingerie, handbags and luggage once owned by Wallis Simpson, the American divorcee who shook the British monarchy, are due to be auctioned off in London next week.
The item will be part of the same sale that sees a negligee worn by Kate Middleton – at a University of St. Andrew student catwalk show – go under the hammer.
Proceeds from the sale of the Duchess of Windsor collection will benefit the Dodo International Charitable Foundation.
The Foundation, a permanent memorial to Dodi Al Fayed , aids children in need of medical care, helps with their psychological and learning difficulties and gives material support for those without families to assist them.
The lingerie offering includes a series of nightdresses (1930-50), made from chiffon, Chantilly lace and crepe de chine, in rose-pink, pale pink, shocking pink and ivory. Three boudoir jackets and six silk petticoats also feature.
The story of Simpson, for whom King Edward VIII abdicated in 1938, is currently being turned into a movie, W.E., directed by Madonna.
