Utah protest breaks underwear world record

Guiness World Records has confirmed that the controversial Utah Undie Run, which took place on September 24, broke the record for the largest gathering of people wearing only underpants or knickers.

2,270 individuals took part in the run, smashing the previous record of 550 – set in Great Britain last year – by 1,720 people.

Participants donned bras, panties, nightgowns swimwear and colourful boxer shorts. Full nudity was banned by organisers.

The goal of the Utah Undie Run was to protest the US state’s conservative policies.

The website states: “We’ve all heard it for years, Utah is boring, Utahn’s are uptight….. well, it’s time to change all that, at least for a night.”

Another run is already being planned for August 25, 2012.
