The New Designer of the Year category gives a nod to the rising stars of the industry and recognises the budding brands that represent the future of creative lingerie design.
The judges had a tough job choosing their winner given the standard of finalists but in the end it was Selina Bond who picked up the award, less than 18 months after she graduated from De Montfort University with a first-class degree in Contour Fashion.
While in the third year of her programme, she was one of 20 students chosen by an industry panel to participate in the prestigious Graduate Fashion Show, which was attended by leading figureheads.
There, she presented six striking pieces featuring unique pairings of carbon fibre and lace.
It was this same collection that stood out from other entries in the New Designer category.
Since graduating, Selina Bond has received a £8,000 start-up grant from DMU to set up her own brand. She has applied for patents on her designs and will launch her namesake label next year.
Finalists in the New Designer of the Year category included Clover Lewis Swimwear, Edge o’ Beyond, Nui Ami and Yawn.
