Textiles, clothing and footwear were the only retail categories to see sales volumes decline in February, new figures show.
According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) textiles, clothing and footwear stores saw volumes decline 1.4% on the same period last year, and the amount spent was down 0.6%.
The ONS said average weekly sales of textiles, clothing and footwear reached £700 million.
Overall retail sales volumes increased 3.7%, while the amount spent by value increased 3.5%.
On Tuesday a report from the Confederation of British Industry showed February retail sales grew at their slowest pace since November, blaming the timing of Easter and Mother’s Day for the slowdown in activity.
