Texas exotic dancers banned from wearing pasties

A Texas judge has ruled that exotic dancers in San Antonio must wear semi-modest undergarments when performing.

Chief US District Judge Fred Biery delivered a ruling on Monday, titled “The Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Bikini Top v The (More) Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Pastie,” requiring San Antonio exotic dancers to wear full bikini tops instead of pasties, decorated adhesive patches which only conceal the nipples. The ruling was noted for its use of puns and double entendres, described by a lawyer for the opposing side as “one of the most entertaining things I’ve ever seen."

However, local dance clubs are fighting the ruling, fearing it could threaten their business. Locals involved in the industry, including performers, bouncers, bar tenders and lingerie store owners, also worry it could reduce their income and threaten their jobs, whilst also decreasing tax revenues used to fund local schools, amongst other things.

Local officials in San Antonio claim the law will help reduce crime associated with the dance clubs, though others believe it will simply spur an exodus of performers to Texas cities with more liberal policies.
