Online search volumes for swimwear outstripped those for lingerie in September, according to Greenlight’s latest analysis of fashion-related search data.
The number of searches for ‘lingerie’ on Google UK totalled 74,000 that month, compared to 90,500 for ‘swimwear’. Searches for ‘bikinis’ came to 74,000 in the same period.
Shoes and accessories accounted for 35% of fashion-related queries, but womenswear made the highest gains on the previous quarter, with related volumes in September totalling 4.2 million, up 102% on June’s 2 million, Greenlight revealed in its Fashion Sector Report – Issue 19.
Google UK searches pertaining to swimwear made up just 6% of womenswear queries. However, when compared to the previous quarter, swimwear search volumes in September rose 152% on June levels.
Online retailer Asos.com emerged as the most prominent site to consumer searches for womenswear, with a 58% share of visibility. Debenhams.com and ebay.co.uk followed with 41% a piece.
