Students shortlisted for LYCRA design award

Four UK fashion students have been shortlisted for the LYCRA Future Designers Award to be presented at the WGSN Global Fashion Awards ceremony in October.

The candidates – along with nine other hopefuls from China, Colombia, India, Singapore and the US – have got through to the semi-finals of the competition organized by LYCRA brand owner Invista.

Now in its 5th year, LYCRA Future Designers will offer one student or graduate designer the chance to work with expert mentors at Invista and receive LYCRA fibre fabrics to help with the development of a collection.

Participants were invited to submit lingerie, swim, sportswear or hosiery designs that could be manufactured using LYCRA fiber products, along with mood boards and supporting documentation.

Invista Apparel global director of brand and communications Denise Sakuma said; “The WGSN Global Fashion Awards offers the perfect international platform for INVISTA, owner of the LYCRA® brand, to celebrate young up and coming design from across the globe.”

“We are so excited to be able to use this platform to launch new creative talents that will help lead and design the apparel industry.”

The winner will be announced at a star-studded event to be held at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London on 30th October.

The LYCRA Future Designers 2012 was awarded to Shireeka Devlin who graduated from the London College of Fashion last year.
