Stella McCartney awarded OBE

The fashion designer Stella McCartney will receive an OBE (Order of the British Empire) in 2013, after being named in the New Years Honours list.

The honour comes just weeks after she was named Designer of the Year and Designer Brand of the year at the British Fashion Awards.

McCartney’s part in creating the kits for Team GB at the 2012 Olympics no doubt played a part in the decision to honour the designer, but her brand has had a strong year, with the launch of her second lingerie line, as well as two new fragrances and a children’s collaboration with Mr Men, called Little Miss Stella.

The Stella McCartney Lingerie Collection is a luxurious range in silks and Leavers lace, while her Stella line, launched in 2012, is an everyday collection that uses innovative fabrics such as organic cotton and recycled metal.
