Sports bras help girls in Africa win the race

The Girls Gotta Run Foundation is partnering with activewear brand Oiselle to provide sports bras to young women in Ethiopia, according to the magazine Runner’s World.

By allowing girls in Ethiopia to stay in school and train as runners, the charity helps them avoid marrying too young, which often leads to dangerous pregnancies and poverty when their education is abandoned. Former participants in the program have gone to attend university and have successful careers.

Discussing the project, which runs until June 20th, Oisele founder and CEO Sally Bergesen told Runner’s World that “the U.S. is such a consumer mammoth and often our sports bras still have life in them when we buy new ones, so the idea seemed like a natural fit.”

Used sports bras can be mailed to Oiselle Running, 7109 Woodlawn Ave NE, Seattle WA, 98115. The company is also providing donors with coupons good for a 15 percent discount on their products if they provide an email address.
