Sport-glamour is a key trend that buyers can expect to see in upcoming SS15 swimwear collections, according to organisers of Mode City, Paris, which closed its doors on Monday.
Brands from Sumarie and Melissa Odabash to Carizzi and Agua Bendita brought to show garments inspired by 1980’s dance leotards and ‘surf and street’ looks reworked with lustrous fabrics, colour-blocking and embellishments.
Sheer panels are a key element to the trend, as are mesh details, zips and geometric patterns.
“Designers are also inspired by the early 80s Italian Memphis Movement, launched by Ettore Sottsass and, to a greater degree, by abstract painting,” said Mode City in a release.
“Graphic colour blocks, usually bi-colour, are perfect choices for seaside fashion, and geometry is sometimes even a starting point for swimwear prints.”
Cuts are contemporary and clean-lined, while neons and bright metallic bursts reflect hyperactive cityscapes.
For fabrics, pay attention to neoprene, which is used in both swimwear and beachwear collections to create a wetsuit look.
