Bournemouth independent swimwear retailer SOS Swim was shocked when a suspicious, online order turned out to be from Spanish Olympic swim team member Aschwin Wildeboer.
SOS Swim marketing director Amanda Bursey told Lingerie Insight: “Because the delivery address was in England and the invoice was in Spain, and it was just being sent to a hotel, we were a bit wary.
“So, we rang up and discovered it was actually a world backstroke record holder, Aschwin Wildeboer.”
The former world record holder for the 100m backstroke ordered SWANS goggles, nose clips and nutrition from the retailer.
“He wore the goggles in the Olympics and the nutrition was for his training, I guess,” added Bursey.
The SWANS goggles used by the Olympic athlete were the same as those worn by controversial Chinese swimmer Liuyang Jiao, as she won the 200m butterfly at this year’s Games.
SOS Swimwear is the sole UK importer of SWANS goggles and distributes them to other retailers in the country.
Other high profile customers of the business include Olympic bronze medallist Cassie Patten and the GB military pentathlon team.
