Student Sophie Morgan, 20, has been crowned Star in a Bra 2012, winning an international modelling contract with D plus bra brand Curvy Kate.
The G cup Guernsey girl received a record 904 votes, beating over 1000 hopefuls to be voted the public’s favourite in the 12 week, UK wide non-professional model search.
Morgan said: “I believe it is vital for our society to make a shift in the way we view women and the way women are portrayed in the media and fashion industry. Now, more than ever, we need brands like Curvy Kate to acknowledge that we want to see more varied portrayals of the female body, so that girls no longer grow up comparing themselves to such a narrow ideal of what beauty can be.’
Commencing in 2009, Curvy Kate’s launch year, the Star in a Bra competition was introduced as the brand struggled to find curvy models who reflected its broad size range and represented its natural, D to K cup customer.
With British busts growing year on year and the average size in the UK a 14, Curvy Kate vowed to celebrate these figures and make these women their models. It has also helped show a true portrayal of how their lingerie would look and fit on a D plus bust.
Morgan added: “I really believe that I have the passion, the confidence and the brains not just to model for Curvy Kate, but to live and breathe everything that they stand for. I will do the best I can to help other women see how wonderful it is to throw away the idea that we should conform to the standard ideals of what a woman should be – and feel comfortable and happy with themselves just the way they are. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to get my voice across and help everyone see that beauty isn’t about how you look….it’s about how you feel!’
Moragan will front the new Spring/Summer 13 collection and the fuller busted brand’s latest marketing and promotional campaign, as well as taking part in the season’s trade shows.
She will also appear on ecommerce sites such as Debenhams, Very, Figleaves, New Look in the forthcoming seasons.
