Sainsbury’s knickers sell like hotcakes

Consumers wanting to look flawless in summer clothing snapped up nearly 4,000 pairs of Sainsbury’s VPL (visible panty line) knickers in the third week of July, setting a new record for the retailer.

The underwear are designed to be invisible beneath clothing, with no discernable outlines or seams. Sainbury’s estimates it sold a pair of the knickers every two seconds, as the heat wave left shoppers eager to wear warm weather clothes which may reveal conventional undergarments.

Recently, hot temperatures lead to a similar rush at Asda, with the retailer selling over £1.1 million worth of bikinis from its George clothing line.
