John Lewis has the biggest online reach out of all department stores in the UK and Ireland, according to Lingerie Insight’s 2017 Reach List.
The retail chain was ranked first for its strong media following and digital footprint, beating rivals Debenhams, House of Fraser, Selfridges and Harrods.
Across social media, John Lewis has enjoyed a steady increase in Facebook likes and Twitter followers over the last 12 months, while its Instagram followers have climbed an impressive 600% to more than 250,000 over the last two years.
The Reach List also takes into account retailers’ Alexa ranking, which is calculated using a proprietary methodology that combines a site’s estimated average of daily unique visitors and its estimated number of page views over three months.
John Lewis’ Alexa ranking was much higher than its rivals, helping it top the list in the Department Store category.
Looking at the break down of John Lewis’ traffic, the majority of visitors to the website are based in the UK (84.1%), with the US and Japan being the retailer’s next biggest markets.
In its full-year sales to January 2017, online was the main driver of growth, with sales up 16.2% on the year before.
Lingerie Insight’s 2017 Reach List will be published in full on Monday, October 30.
