Retailers on Regent Street are expected to see a rise in footfall next month, when the West-End shopping destination celebrates Summer Streets, a traffic- free event packed with fashion shows, picnics and pop-ups.
Summer Streets, in partnership with the Mayor of London, Westminster City Council, the Crown Estate and the Regent Street Association, is an annual event that marks the start of summer.
Over four Sundays in July, shoppers will be encouraged to experience the retail destination in a traffic-free zone whilst enjoying free activities and entertainment.
The street will play host to garden parties, dance workshops and busking competitions, along with live music and food stalls.
And on July 20, retailers including Karl Lagerfield, Michael Kors and Burberry will give the public a chance to receive a makeover and walk the catwalk in this season’s most fashionable garments.
Summer Streets is an example of how the UK high street is focusing on offering experiences that cannot be replicated online.
The event will be held during Independent Retail Month, a separate campaign, which aims to raise awareness of thousands of local businesses and increase footfall into town and village centres, helping retailers to stay open for business and to improve collaboration between retailers.
