POWER LIST 2018: Movers & Shakers – Nicolas Busnel, CEO, Maison Close

With an artistic educational background, Nicolas Busnel started his career in freelance marketing and PR in 1988.

He then went onto establish creative design and communications agency, Air Design Marseille, in 1999.

Seven years later, Nicholas launched his own lingerie brand, Maison Close, opening the door to luxury lingerie and erotic aesthetics.

Taking inspiration from erotically-charged imagery created by photographers such as Helmut Newton and Hans Feurer, his aim is to create garments that allow women to reinvent themselves.

Made using chiffon, satin, and cheeky accessories, his collections place lingerie at the heart of women’s wardrobes, offering garments that can be worn in the boudoir and as fashion crossover styles.

Nicolas is the Jack of all trades, leading a team of 30 people while designing each collection and handling the brand’s artistic direction.

He also operates a Maison Close store in New York. Opened in 2015, the store, located in Soho, sells luxurious lingerie in a boudoir-inspired setting. It also hosts lingerie events and creates made-to-measure pieces on request.

Maison Close continues to move and shake the industry, sending a clear message that “sexy can be elegant and elegance can be sexy”, and offering redefined lingerie through provocative and original pieces.
