POWER LIST 2017: Movers & Shakers – Sian Thomas, global head of creative design, Triumph

Sian Thomas is a hands-on creative design director who has led Triumph International’s design team in crafting some of the brand’s most innovative collections in its history.

Since joining the company in 2012, Thomas has helped develop the brand’s award-winning Magic Wire bra, which was introduced to buyers during the AW14 trade shows.

Magic Wire replaces the traditional metal wire with a flexible silicon piece, offering the support of a wire and the comfort of none.

It was developed on the back of Triumph’s Stand Up for Fit campaign, which surveyed 12,000 women in seven countries to discover their issues and frustrations when it comes to selecting the perfect-fitting lingerie.

One of the most common complaints about bras is that the underwire digs into the skin, causing discomfort, redness and constant fiddling.

The Magic Wire has since been incorporated into the Magic Boost collection, designed to help women reclaim their shape and enhance their silhouette; the invisible Body Make-Up range of T-shirt bras; and the Magic Motion bra by TriAction – Triumph’s new sports bra brand.

Since its inception last year, TriAction by Triumph has proved itself to be a leader in the sports bra category.

As well as the Magic Motion bra, the AW17 TriAction collection incorporates the Dynamic Lite Cardio series, a 3D Powertech innovation which fuses three fabrics together to provide bounce control and lightness without the bulk; and Boost Lite, a push-up sports bra designed to enhance women’s natural curves with lightly-padded and breathable spacer cups.

Thomas is also passionate about mentoring young lingerie designers. Earlier this year, she set Contour Fashion students at De Montfort University a competition to reinvent the flower from a fashion perspective and innovate new concepts in lace.

The high standard of designs inspired by wide-ranging elements – from Venus flytrap plants at Kew Gardens to the intricate metalwork on churches found in Prague – compelled Thomas to pick five students to collaborate with on upcoming Triumph projects.
