Just one month after being diagnosed with stage four breast cancer at the age of 23, Kris Hallenga set up CoppaFeel!, a breast cancer awareness charity aimed at young women.
Her doctor originally dismissed a tumour on Hallenga’s breast because of her age, leading to a late diagnosis. Driven by this difficult experience, she and her twin sister Maren devoted themselves to educating people about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer.
Together, they launched CoppaFeel! at Beach Break Live in 2009.
Within weeks, Kris was appearing on TV and in the national press, raising funds for CoppaFeel! and sharing her story in the hope stamping out late detection of breast cancer.
In October 2013, Kris called on the lingerie industry to help spread the charity’s message through the #BraHijack campaign.
The campaign encourages brands to sew breast-checking reminder labels into all bras sold in the UK. Since then, labels including Curvy Kate, Ann Summers, Panache, Lepel, Gossard and Tutti Rouge, to name a few, have pledged their support.
Kris, now 31, has recently stepped down as CEO of CoppaFeel! to pursue new adventures, but continues to support her charity as an ambassador.
During the AW17 edition of Moda Lingerie & Swimwear in February, CoppaFeel! hosted its inaugural Boob Brunch to help raise awareness of the charity and its work.
The event heralded a nationwide campaign to host Boob Brunches all over the UK.
