Ann Summers is reaping the rewards of five years of rampant re-branding under the leadership of CEO Jacqueline Gold, one of the leading entrepreneurs in the country.
In December 2015, the lingerie retailer reported a £1m profit for the year to 27 June 2015, up from a loss of £3.9m a year before as sales climbed 7.6%.
This was the result of a major brand overhaul, which included the roll out of a new store design, design collaborations, ramping up wholesale and the launch of its Click and Collect service.
More recently, Ann Summers saw online sales surge by 54% over the 2016 festive period. Whilst in-store sales increased 12.5% and overall sales grew 17.2%, the massive increase in online was attributed to stronger online delivery options, giving consumers more confidence to shop later in the days leading up to Christmas.
2016 also saw Jacqueline Gold awarded a CBE for her services to entrepreneurship. She collected the award from the Princess Royal at an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle in July.
During her 35-year career, Gold has been proud to describe Ann Summers as a business “run by women, for women” and has received many accolades for creating a female institution.
Ann Summers currently employs 10,000 people and is a true multi-channel retailer with 138 retail stores, a booming online platform, wholesale partnerships with ASOS, Shop Direct and House of Fraser and a Party Plan business with 4,000 active party planners.
Going forward, Ann Summers is looking to increase and further improve its digital presence with the appointment of a specialist digital marketing firm.
Bring Digital was awarded the brief to handle Ann Summers’ online marketing in January. It will be tasked with both promoting the brand online and increasing the number of customers with campaigns.
