Over the last 12 months, Angela Spindler has led multi-brand fashion retailer N Brown in ramping up its Fit 4 the Future programme as it looks to reposition itself from a direct mail-led company to a ‘digital first’ business.
With a 140-year history and a business traditionally orientated around catalogue selling, the Manchester-based group, which owns JD Williams, Simply Be, Jacamo and Figleaves, is in the midst of refreshing its systems for the digital age.
This project involves moving its systems to the cloud and replacing ageing applications that are no longer fit for purpose.
In May 2016, N Brown signed up digital transformation expert Sopra Steria, which is helping create a unique platform for the retailer.
Under the Fit 4 the Future programme, online lingerie giant Figleaves has transformed its digital landscape with the launch of a new website.
The website, which went live in September, offers an improved shopping experience in terms of fastest search, page load speed and personalised content.
Designed in-house in collaboration with software technology company Demandware, the site is now fully responsive so consumers can access the same dynamic content on desktop and mobile devices.
In October, N Brown said it is on track to meet its full-year expectations despite recording a 19% decline in profits for the six months to August 27.
Profits before tax fell from £31.6m to £39.4m, but group revenue rose 1% to £429.4m, largely driven by mobile penetration, with 70% of all traffic coming through smartphones.
Angela Spindler assumed the role of CEO of N Brown in July 2013. She is the former CEO of the Original Factory Shop and was the managing director at Debenhams from January 2008 to January 2009.
