The nominations phase for the UK Lingerie Awards, which closed on Monday, generated an incredible 4737 votes across the 20 categories, making it one of the largest polls of public opinion ever conducted for the British intimate apparel industry.
A report on the nominations will now be presented to the panel of expert judges, which will reflect on its findings as they select finalists in each awards category.
“The UK intimate apparel business clearly needs these awards. Without them, brands and retailers have been relying on their gut instincts to work out not only what will be most popular in the future, but also what has been most popular in the past,” suggests Kat Slowe, editor of Lingerie Insight, which is hosting the UK Lingerie Awards.
“When we get to the point of announcing this year’s winners, the lingerie community will finally know the brands to beat and where the rest sit within the competitive landscape. That can only be good for future sales for the most creative and professional brands because everybody will raise their games,” adds Slowe.
The eminent judging panel for the UK Lingerie Awards is made up of June Kenton, owner of Rigby & Peller; Sharon Webb, head of lingerie buying and design for Debenhams; Kelly Isaac, founder of Lingerie Collective; Gillian Proctor, course leader at DeMontford University; and Claire Franks, founder of Intimate Apparel Consultancy.
They will begin selecting the finalists for the UK Lingerie Awards this week, with a list of finalists published on July 19th.
