New York is going to host the world’s first fashion week for intimate apparel.
The event will take place in the Big Apple alongside the lingerie and swimwear AW13 tradeshows in the last week of February.
Domestic American intimate apparel brands and multi-nationals are expected to take part in what has been dubbed LingerieFW, says the event’s founder and director Lauren Rich.
The key benefit of LingerieFW will be the involvement of a broad array of media, which are expected to be attracted to and event with production values more in keeping with a womenswear Fashion Week.
"From consumer to trade, domestic to international, our goal is to bring together all facets of press – editors, writers, reporters, bloggers, photographers, camera crews, etc., via a compelling industry hub to bring coverage of intimate apparel brands direct to consumers worldwide. Through LingerieFW, we want to make lingerie & intimates designers household names just as their womenswear counterparts are,” said Rich.
"It is safe to say intimate apparel has successfully staked its claim as a power player in the greater fashion industry, and as such deserves a high visibility, influential platform to collectively give its growing force of brands their due voice. The goal of LingerieFW is to give this voice to the hundreds of beautiful, innovative intimates designers & brands via a channel that has both trade and consumer reach; spotlighting and elevating the industry as a whole.”
