Museum reveals the power of undergarments

A new exhibit at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris chronicles the history and influence of men’s and women’s underwear from the 14th century to the present day.

Titled “Behind the Seams, the Mechanics of Underwear: An Indiscreet History of the Silhouette,” the exhibit explores the way intimate apparel, from codpieces to corsets, alters the body to create a desired look.

Described as “dazzling” by the New York Times, the exhibit “retraces the long history of the metamorphoses that the dictates of successive fashions have imposed on the body,” according to a press release.

The exhibition also offers visitors an opportunity to try on select pieces of underclothing, and runs until November 24th.
