A new range of burkini swimwear has been launched by high street giant Marks & Spencer.
In a sign of the growing diversity of Britain’s shoppers, Marks & Spencer now stocks two styles of the full-length swimwear, which is designed to protect the modesty of Muslim women.
The new range, which promises to cover the whole body with the exception of the face, hands and feet, “without compromising on style”, features a black suit with a paisley print and a blue design with a floral print.
Marks & Spencer has stocked burkinis at its Dubai and Libya stores for the past three years.
But now they are available from the retailer’s UK website and will soon go on sale at its flagship store in Marble Arch, London.
The burkini made the headlines in 2011 when worn by Nigella Lawson on a beach holiday as protection from sunburn.
