M&S lingerie chief will not replace clothing boss, reports say

Director of lingerie, womenswear and beauty at M&S, Jo Jenkins, will not be automatically promoted to head of clothing and home departments.

That is the claim of a headhunter, who told Drapers: “It’s interesting as they clearly realise he [Steve Rowe] can’t do it all but they haven’t automatically promoted Jo Jenkins, they are looking externally.”

It reported that M&S is ‘actively recruiting’ for a new clothing and home boss after sources claimed that the retailer is looking to fill Steve Rowe’s role.

The headhunter reportedly added that someone with a value background might be considered. According to Drapers, some industry observers suggested departing House of Fraser CEO, Nigel Oddy, may be a potential candidate, although this was dismissed by recruitment sector sources.

One supplier told the website: “Scott Fyfe [former menswear director] has gone, Michael Kerr is looking after home, menswear and kids, while Jo Jenkins has a big remit. They need someone really good to come in and sort it out like Christos Angelides [former Next group product director], but I’m not sure he’d go for it.”
