French brand Carioca Collection has been crowned designer of the year by Mode City and Paris Capitale de la Creation.
The beachwear label was recognised for "making the best of colourful, sensuous trends" and designing "elegant garments with stand-out details", including pleating, draping and piping, Mode City organisers said.
Carioca Collection was established in 2004 by Corsican sisters Marie-Luce Rocca Serra and Sandrine Piergigli.
The designers were inspired by the Brazilian beach vibe – as expressed in the brand name – and their Mediterranean roots to create a complete ‘beach to bar’ wardrobe for travelling light.
The collection includes swimsuits, jumpsuits, dresses, pareos and accessories.
Every year, the brand collaborates with top French fashion houses to create collections that eventually become a permanent part of its portfolio.
These fashion houses include Cadolle Paris, which designed one-piece swimsuits for the brand, and Un jour Un sac, which collaborated with the brand to develop tote bags for the beach.
Carioca Collection is currently stocked at Nancy Meyer and Shopstyle.co.uk.
