Portas reportedly formed the partnership with House of Fraser after being turned down my Marks & Spencer and John Lewis.

A three-part Channel 4 documentary, which follows Portas in the process of developing her new collection and fashion outlet, will be aired this October.

On her Playtex range, Portas said: “Good, well fitted lingerie is so important. If you get the foundations right the outfit on top looks ten times better. Playtex has designed two gorgeous new bra and briefs sets that combine fit, support and comfort with modern chic, and they perfectly complement my new fashion range.”

The limited edition ‘Mary Portas Recommends’ range by Playtex seeks to combine pretty detailing with natural shapes for a feminine silhouette, incorporating comfort, fit and support.

Satiny Lace (bra and briefs) features pretty, stretchy lace and comes in a choice of black or multi-coloured ivory, and Delicate Embroidery (bra and briefs) features sheer tulle with two-tone embroidery in a choice of mink & pink and multi-coloured ivory.

Playtex UK marketing manager Marica Carleschi said: “Mary Portas is a respected style and retail expert and we are thrilled to be working with her on this exciting project. We are experts in designing lingerie for grown-up women who need the right fit and support, and we were inspired by Mary to inject some of her style and glamour into this new range.”

The Mary Portas & Charnos range features three derniers: Sheer 10, Almost Opaque 40 and Full Opaque Satin 80.

The sheer 10 denier matt tights use 3D yarn construction, which means that Lycra is blended throughout the tights for comfort and fit. Available in S-M and M-L, this range comes in Night Noir, Simply Shadow and Neo Nude (RRP £9:50).

The Almost Opaque 40 range, which comes in S-M and M-L, includes styles Night Noir, Super Shadow, Intense Indigo, Subtle Silver, Mega Magenta, Rich Red, Sultry Sage or Top Teal (RRP: £9:50).

Finally, the Satin 80 Full Opaques come in Night Noir, Intense Indigo, Subtle Silver, Rich red and Sultry Sage and offer an ‘ultra sleek satin finish’ for a polished look. They are available in S-M and M-L (RRP: £14.00).

On the collaboration with Charnos, Portas said: “There is a natural affinity between my own ethos and that of Charnos hosiery, which has long been associated with producing high quality, accessible, wearable style for legs. I have designed the new Mary & Charnos collection to be fabulous and fashionable, using colour and pattern to inspire women to be bolder in their choice of hosiery, yet remain ultimately stylish.”

She added: “Charnos has helped me create the best key essential pieces. Using 3D knitting construction, the plain colours give a second skin fit on the leg, subtly smoothing to give the best possible look. The three deniers give colour solutions for all occasions. I have carefully edited the palette so women can wear this season’s statement hues with confidence.”

In partnership with Portas, Charnos has also developed Armery, a new garment designed to disguise the arms. Part armour and part hosiery, Armery hugs the arms, enabling women to wear sleeveless tops and dresses without resorting to a cardigan.

The new ‘Mary Portas Recommends’ by Playtex and Mary Portas & Charnos ranges, are available exclusively at House of Fraser and independent lingerie retailers nationwide.
