Marlies Dekkers has announced her comeback with the launch of a couture collection.
Lingerie Insight previously reported that the designer was inspired by the heroic story of Joan of Arc when designing the AW14 limited-edition collection, but further details were kept under wraps at the time.
“She was inspiring for me in the tough times so I want to honour her with this collection – it’s very strong and empowering,” Dekkers said in February.
But now, after surviving a bankruptcy ruling last year, the designer is able to announce the launch of a two-part series of metallic body armour pieces that will reach the market in September.
The Heroic Journey range reflects the contrast between softness and hardness, which is translated into materials, including a shiny microfiber, printed with a delicate design in a brownish-purple tone.
The metal chain-web cover is inspired by the armour Joan of Arc was wearing to protect her body during battle, which represents hardness.
The Victory range is a bold statement in structured gold leather. The line features a Fleur de Lis dangling from the neckline, representing power and referring to the coat of arms Joan of Arc received after victory.
Today, Dekkers is the creative director of her label after it was rescued from bankruptcy by private equity investor Karmijn Kapitaal in August 2013. The brand appointed Eppo Van Berckelaer as its CEO in March.
Dekkers said: “In my new position as Creative Director, I am able to give my undivided attention to creating trendsetting and distinctive designs. The Couture Collection gives me a platform to explore the boundaries of what is possible in terms of the latests innovations and materials.”
