Marc Jacobs bids farewell to Louis Vuitton

Marc Jacobs is leaving Louis Vuitton to focus on his eponymous label in preparation for an IPO.

The announcement signals the end of a 16-year stretch at Louis Vuitton for the designer, who was the most prominent American to head the European fashion house.

But, the move does not signal the end of Jacobs’s relationship with LVMH, owner of Louis Vuitton, as he will work with the company on moving his own label forward.

Earlier today, Jacobs presented his last show for Louis Vuitton as part of the Paris Fashion Week. Jacobs helped grow the Vuitton label significantly during his time there, introducing a ready-to-wear collection to a brand long known only for leather goods.

Chief executive of Louis Vuitton, Michael Burke, stated to the press: "We are doing what’s good for Marc and the future of his company. Marc’s wish is to take it to the next level."

Marc, by Marc Jacobs, has a range of swimwear and men’s underwear, along with ready to wear, jewellery and shoe collections.
