A lingerie boutique in Manchester is celebrating 25 years in business this week.
See-Saw Lingerie opened its doors in the village of Hale in 1991 and will be handing out bubbles to its customers this week to mark its quarterly-century anniversary.
“If you’re in Hale on Thursday, Friday or Saturday, pop in to See-Saw, raise a glass of birthday bubbles and help us toast 25 years,” the company said in a Facebook post.
See-Saw Lingerie had previously sold traditional corsetry for nearly 50 years, but after a major refurbishment, Penny English and her family began selling bespoke bridalwear and new lingerie brands.
Then, 14 years ago, Penny took over the business to allow her parents to retire.
Speaking of the store’s success, Penny told Lingerie Insight: “See-Saw has continued to be a destination shop for a wonderfully loyal customer base and we are now seeing an increase in new customers who want the personal service we are known for.”
Lingerie Insight reported in August that Penny will hand over the management reins to her friend and colleague Johanna Bolhoven as she prepares to move to Dorset.
Commenting on selling the store, she said: “I have loved the lingerie business, but have decided it is time for a change.
“I am delighted to be handing over the reins to a member of staff and good friend, which will allow me to embark on my next adventure when I move to Dorset early next year.”
Bolhoven, a marketing consultant, fashion writer and stylist, said she is delighted to be taking over the management of See-Saw Lingerie.
“I have been fortunate to work for See-Saw and with Penny for the last few years and I have got to know the business very well. When she told me about her plans to move to the South West I knew I couldn’t let the business go to anyone else,” she added.
“I have worked in various areas of the fashion industry for over 20-years and this has included fashion PR and marketing for large department stores and small independent boutiques, fashion buying for independent labels, TV and magazine shoots, fashion shows and style editorials for fashion magazines. I’m also a personal stylist and shopper and regularly talk to my clients about the importance of well-fitting lingerie.
“See-Saw has cultivated a loyal customer base due to the professional friendly service that people find there, and I’m delighted that I am able to help continue the great work Penny and her team are doing.”
