Lingerie tycoon June Kenton opens landmark store

Rigby & Peller founder June Kenton started fitting the Queen in 1960.

June Kenton, owner of British lingerie retailer Rigby & Peller, officially opened the company’s first store in Dubai yesterday.

As revealed by Lingerie Insight last month, the store is part of the London outfit’s international expansion strategy and gives it a flagship base in the Middle East.

Kenton, who bought the business back in 1982 and is Royal Corsetiere to HM Queen Elizabeth, flew out for the ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the launch.

The outlet spans more than 125 square metres, including double curtain fitting rooms for extended customer privacy.

It will stock premium brands such as PrimaDonna, PrimaDonna Twist, Marie Jo, Marie Jo L’Aventure, Andres Sarda, Mimi Holiday, Silent Assembly, Aubade, Anita, Marjolaine and Lise Charmel.

The company said the launch of the Dubai business makes it the first lingerie styling brand in the region. In addition to the UAE, Rigby & Peller operates stores in the US, Germany, Denmark, Hong Kong and China.

Ignace Van Doorselaere, CEO at Van de Velde, said: “Customers from the Middle East have visited our stores in London for a number of years now. Introducing Rigby & Peller in Dubai will give these customers direct access to our latest selection and looks and of course to our exemplary styling experience. Our ultimate wish is that Rigby & Peller becomes the destination of choice in the region for lingerie, swimwear and nightwear shopping.”
