The owners of two lingerie boutiques in the West Midlands attended a reception at 10 Downing Street yesterday to celebrate the success of small businesses in Britain.

Sukhy Nijar of Sipsey Lingerie in Solihull and Lisa Farrington-Martin of Embrace in Wocester were invited to the event after being featured by Small Business Saturday as two of the UK’s top 100 small businesses.

Small Business Saturday is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities.

The day itself takes on the first Saturday in December each year, but for the last three years the campaign has promoted 100 small businesses on social media and invited them to London receptions in both Downing Street and The Treasury Drum in the 100 days leading up to the event.

Embrace and Sipsey were recognised for the key roles they play in the communities they serve.

Small Business Saturday 2016 takes place tomorrow and consumers will be urged to support the initiative by shopping locally.

Embrace will hold a festive fitting event to mark the occasion, inviting shoppers to join the team for a glass of fizz and choose some luxury lingerie.
