A ‘career’ burglar suspected of trying to steal from a Leeds lingerie store has been sentenced to three years in prison.
35-year-old Lee Waterson walked into a staff area at the back of the Trinity Centre branch of Victoria’s Secret lingerie shop in June this year and was disturbed after hiding in a disabled toilet at the back of the shop.
Leeds Crown Court heard that a member of staff opened the toilet door and when he emerged he rummaged around in stock at the back of the shop before leaving empty handed.
Lake’s botched robbery at the lingerie store came just hours after he stole £1,800 of equipment from a city centre church,
The Yorkshire Post reported that Waterston, who admitted carrying out five commercial burglaries between April and June this year, has 22 previous convictions for 49 offences, including theft and burglary.
Recorder, Sophie Drake, called him a “prolific burglar” who has offended as a youth and an adult.
“In a period between April and June this year you committed five burglaries in the city centre. You say you don’t remember any of the offences because you were under the influence of drugs at the time” she said.
