Leeds hospital retailer in legal row over lingerie

A shopkeeper operating at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds is caught up in a legal row over the sale of lingerie.

Markku Blackburn was given exclusive rights to sell women’s underwear and nightwear at The Clothes Shop – an outlet he opened in the Gledhow wing in 2011, reports the Yorkshire Evening Post.

But he claims his lease agreement was breached when another shop began selling similar items, resulting in the loss of thousands of pounds in potential profits.

Assura, which runs the shopping centre, denies these claims and has refused to take action.

In protest, Blackburn stopped paying rent for his business, leading to Assura to axe his contract and order him to not re-enter the shop.

“It feels like they are playing with us – they are a big company and we are nothing,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
