Kinky Knickers maker back into business

Kinky Knickers, the lingerie brand championed by Mary Portas, will go back into production after the manufacturer that makes its garments was brought out of administration.

Headen & Quarmby, a Lancashire-based company, has been bought by Headen & Quarmby UK, owned by former managing director David Moore.

The company said it intends to restart as soon as possible.

"We have a strong underlying business and a full order book. We’re determined to rebuild a great British success story, thanks to the support of our staff, retailers, suppliers and Mary Portas,” Moore said in a statement.

Portas added: "I was so sorry to hear about the issues H&Q had in January. I’m thrilled they’ve had the confidence and the vision to re-build."

All of the 33 members of staff at Headen & Quarmby lost their jobs last month following the appointment of administrators BDO in January.

Kerry Bailey, BDO business restructuring partner said at the time: “A drop in post-Christmas orders from key customers and a decline in sales volumes has significantly affected the business and resulted in a deterioration of its working capital position. However, we are doing everything we can to try to secure a future for the business, and we are hopeful of securing a sale."

“To that end, the administration team would welcome approaches from commercial parties interested in acquiring the business or assets," she added.
