Joan Jett embroiled in lingerie lawsuit

Rock star Joan Jett is suing the American retailer Hot Topic, claiming copyright infringement over a new chain of lingerie boutiques.

Jett claims the Blackheart stores are using the name of her backing band, The Blackhearts, and her label, Blackheart Records, without permission. Adding to the controversy, Hot Topic is advertising the store’s eponymous line as “lingerie for girls who rock ‘n roll,” according to Contact Music, and unsuccessfully approached Jett in 2010 about working with the company.

Five locations of the store have already been opened in the US. Presently, Jett is trying to obtain an injunction to prevent further sales of the lingerie collection and is also seeking unspecified financial compensation from its parent company.
