Triumph Inspiration Award winner Emma Walters talks to Lingerie Insight after winning the prestigious UK prize.
What was it like to win the award?
“It’s absolutely amazing. I’m still in shock now, I’m shaking."
Did you have any inkling that you might win?
"Everyone’s garments are so different. It was so hard to imagine what they were looking for. I think it would be a tough decision to make, just because they are so different."
How long did it take you to create your design?
"It took me about a week and a half to make, but I literally spent every waking moment on it."
From where did you gain your inspiration?
"I looked at the 125 years as a whole and I started off with the Victorian women, which is what the outside represents, and it opens up, and the inside represents the modern women. So, it represents the suffragettes fighting for women’s rights and modern constrictions being released."
What is next for you?
"I can’t wait [for Berlin]. Fingers crossed."
How do you believe winning the award could impact on your future career?
"It’s incredible. I can’t believe it. It’s an amazing honour. It’s definitely put me into the spotlight. At the minute, I’m not sure what I want to do. I’d quite like to be a designer. I’d like to think I could create my own label.”
