Lingerie industry veteran John Clark has passed away at the age of 73.
He died on December 23 after a long battle with kidney disease and vascular dementia.
John joined Playtex in the late 1970s, looking after independent shops and key accounts, including House of Fraser.
He was later approached by Chantelle’s Rolly Agnew to join the French brand. The pair successfully launched the company into the UK market in 1980.
John left Chantelle in 1990 and five years later, his wife Sandra bought her first lingerie shop; Temptation of High Wycombe.
“John took a very active part in making the shop a great success,” said friend Mike Flay, who had known John for 16 years. “This included giving the sales reps a hard time in giving not only good service, but settlement discounts and promotions.”
Remembering John, Mike added: “He was larger than life and a great family man. You always knew where you stood with him – he was trustworthy and fair, but firm.”
John’s funeral will take place on January 7 at 1.30pm, at St Augustine’s Church in High Wycombe. A private burial will then take place.
The family will then welcome John’s friends and colleagues to celebrate his life at the Grouse & Ale Lane End.
