Independent lingerie boutique closes store less than a year after opening

An independent lingerie boutique in Southport is set to close this weekend less than a year after opening, but will maintain an ecommerce operation.

Aphrodite and Adonis specialises in bigger-bust lingerie and blamed high business rates for the closure of its store.

The store pays £500 a month before rent and added bills, according to the Visiter.

Owner Vicky Brady told the Visiter: “We’re the only independent store in Southport town centre that offers nice, affordable underwear for larger bust sizes as well as personal fittings. We’re both from Southport and wanted to open the business here and support the town.”

The shop posted on its Facebook page: “We are doing much better online than on the high street and with no relief from Sefton council with their extortionate business rates, it makes no financial sense for us to have a presence on the high street. Maybe in the future, when more help is available for new businesses, we may return. But for now, we want to thank those of you who have supported our dream.”

The shop will honour its 50% sale until it closes on Sunday.
