A landmark Huddersfield lingerie boutique is getting a new look and website after it was sold to a retailer in neighbouring Halifax.
After 10 years under the ownership of Amanda Bates, Sunflowers Lingerie will be taken over by Linda Tait, who heads up lingerie and swimwear shop La Petite Boutique.
Speaking to Lingerie Insight on its recent tour of lingerie retailers in the north of England, Tait said she had always dreamed of owning Sunflowers, a popular fitting specialist, which stocks luxury brands including Secret d’Eva, Miraclesuit, Empriente and Chantelle.
“Before I set up the shop that I’ve got now, Sunflowers was always my dream shop and, just by chance, I was at a trade show and I found out that it was on the market. No sooner did I land on that tarmac than I was booking a viewing.
“It’s always been so well known and it’s the crème de la crème of lingerie shops in West Yorkshire as far as I’m concerned. I can’t wait to move in.”
Tait hopes to take over the management of Sunflowers later this week and will keep La Petite Boutique in Greetland, Halifax open.
She plans to give the shop a “subtle refurb” and is in talks with a website developer to launch an online store.
Commenting on handing over the business after 10 years, Bates said: "It was always a ten year plan to run the store and I’ve been in business for ten years on Thursday. I just want another challenge now.
“I worked as a rehabilitation assistant before this, so it was a complete change for me going into the lingerie industry and it’s been a huge learning curve. It’s a lot more technical than I ever thought it was going to be, but I’ve enjoyed it immensely,” she added.
“My shop is classed as a fitting shop and the majority of my customers have had difficulty in the past getting bras that fit them. It’s nice to see people finally get a bra that fits and that buzz never goes.”
