H&M sales make significant gains

Despite an 11 percent drop in profits during the first half of 2013, H&M experienced a 14 percent increase in sales from the 1st to the 17th of June, compared with the same time period a year ago.

Nonetheless, the world’s second-largest retailer said achieving high sales will be an ongoing challenge, due to Europe’s sluggish economy and the after effects of an unusually cold spring.

Though the company recently relied on heavy discounts to improve clothing sales, shoppers in June gravitated toward new, full-price items.

H&M has 2,926 stores across the globe, compared to 2,596 in 2012.
