High street giants to open at £40m retail park

Next, Newlook and Marks & Spencer are some of the retail giants that are reportedly in talks about opening their doors at a £40mn new retail development on the outskirts of Exeter.

Consolidated Property Group (CPG), the company behind the scheme, told local newspaper the Echo that if all goes to plan, construction could begin in spring 2015 in time for a phased opening the following year.

The project will be known as Moor Exchange in Honiton Road, Sowton.

Public consultation over the development is currently being held in the city.

CPG managing director Martin Ridgway told the Echo: “We are very encouraged by the positive response we have received since the announcement of the development last week.

“It is evident from the comments received that a centre offering local services in this location is very much overdue, especially for those people who live and work locally and do not have time to go into the city centre during their lunch breaks," he added.

“The problem is likely to become even more acute given the huge amount of residential and employment development that is taking place in the area.”
