HanesBrands donates super-size cheque to breast cancer charity

Lingerie manufacturer HanesBrands has donated £10,000 to breast cancer charity Walk the Walk Worldwide.

UK country manager Calum Grant-Wood and senior manager for CSR Loredana Sole presented Walk the Walk founder and CEO Nina Barough with a super-size cheque at their offices in Woking on Monday.

The donation was made ahead of this year’s MoonWalk London, Walk the Walk’s flagship event, which will see 16 members of HanesBrands staff joining 15,000 women and men as they don decorated bras and pound the pavements through the night in an effort to raise vital funds and awareness to fight breast cancer.

The MoonWalk, set to take place on Saturday, marks its 20th anniversary this year.

It was started from small beginnings at a desk within the HanesBrands (then Playtex offices). Since then, Walk the Walk has gone on to become the largest UK grant-making breast cancer charity.

Grant-Wood commented: “This is re-cementing our relationship between Playtex as was, HanesBrands as is now, and Walk the Walk. Nina and Playtex have got a very long and fruitful relationship and we’re now really affirming that, and particularly being able to make an extra donation this year is absolutely fantastic for us. We are really delighted to be able to continue our support and to help fight breast cancer.”

The bra is the trademark of Walk the Walk, and thanks to the thousands of Walkers wearing decorated bras as they take part in the charity’s MoonWalks, and other events, more than £116 million has been raised for breast cancer causes.
