Gossard reveals science behind full bust Glossies

Average breast sizes have increased in the UK from 34B to 36D over the past 15 years, but technical innovation in supportive bras has not kept pace, Gossard suggests.

This season, the British lingerie brand aims to put that right with the release of an updated Glossies range of bras that offer fuller-busted women the comfort and support enjoyed by people with smaller breasts, without compromising on style.

Gossard spent two years developing the latest Glossies that deliver sheer and minimalist bras for customers with cup sizes DD-G. They hit retailers this month as part of the company’s AW12 collection.

The science behind the current Glossies is a moulding technique that embraces fuller cup sizes, using a seamless inner secret sling inside the bra cup to provide extra lift and projection.

Specially-designed fabric has been created to match the look of the A-D cup sizes, yet provide double the strength for the plus sizes.

Gossard head designer Stacey Lindsay explains: “For many years bra designers have stumbled when faced with the larger cup sizes, and this has meant less attractive lingerie for ladies with a fuller figure. Historically bigger sizes have been based on the smaller sizes, but have sacrificed style to deliver the much-needed support. Our team has worked relentlessly to find a way to make it possible to offer our most minimalist and sheer bra for our bigger-breasted customers.

“It was a huge challenge, and we were pioneering never-tried before techniques. But we’re now 100% satisfied we’ve developed a design that stays true to the core cup sized bra, without compromising on style, comfort or fit.”

Unique features that give the bra its gravity-defying power include a hidden wire for support; a seamless inner sling for lift and projection; a double layered wing to provide an anchored positioning and balanced support system; wider adjustable straps also ensuring assets stay put; elastics sewn between fabric layers to boost the comfort-factor; a specially-developed fabric that is identical in appearance but offers double the strength of smaller Glossies.

The Glossies moulded bra, in cup size DD-G will be available from this month in black, white, mocha and nude, RRP £26.
