Going green: emerald is 2013’s colour of the year

According to the world’s top colour authority, Pantone, the most important colour for 2013 will be PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald.

The colour is likely to be widely used next year in all sectors of design, from fashion to interiors, packaging, graphic design and beauty.

“The most abundant hue in nature, the human eye sees more green than any other colour in the spectrumLeatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute commented," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute. "Symbolically, Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world. The colour of the year is chosen after an extensive process of studying the changing colourways around the world in design, fashion, art, travel, film and sporting, social and cultural events.

Last year’s Pantone colour of the year was a vibrant orange, PANTONE 17-1463 Tangerine Tango, and previous key colours have included PANTONE 18-2120 Honeysuckle (2011) and PANTONE 15-5519 Turquoise (2010). This is the first true green since the list began in 2000.
