Fundraising campaign champions free mastectomy underwear

A lingerie shop owner from East Yorkshire is raising funds in the hope of offering her customers mastectomy bras for free.

Bare Essentials’ Angela Langton began the fundraising scheme three years ago in response to discovering that women were paying up to £55 for appropriate bras following breast surgery.

“Mastectomy underwear is not cheap. When I went to bra fitting school I was shocked that women facing such an emotional time are charged for their underwear,” explained the shop owner.

“So I want to raise as much money so ladies going through this challenging time don’t have to worry about paying for their lingerie.”

Langton said she had raised £3,400 to date and had given “about 100 bras for free” to customers who had the surgery.

Yesterday alone, she raised funds for 10 free bras, after her story was published on the BBC News website.
