INVISTA has announced the shortlisted candidates for this year’s Lycra Future Designers Award to be presented at the WGSN Global Fashion Awards ceremony in May.
Two fashion students from the UK – Cassandra Verity Green and Geraldina Montemayor – and eight other hopefuls from China, France, India, Argentina and Brazil, have made it through to the final stage of the competition.
Now in its 6th year, Lycra Future Designers will offer one student or graduate designer the chance to work with expert mentors at Invista and receive LYCRA fibre fabrics to help with the development of a collection.
Participants were invited to submit lingerie, swim, sportswear or hosiery designs that could be manufactured using LYCRA fiber products, along with mood boards and supporting documentation.
“We are really excited to have such a strong list of candidates for the LYCRA® Future Designers award this year,” said Bob Kirkwood, executive VP of Technology & Marketing at INVISTA Apparel & Advanced Technologies.
“Having a global representation of creative talents is very important for the fashion, design and apparel industries, and this year’s picks show us more and more that with globalization there is a real value in a melding of cultures and inspiration from one side of the world to the other. We are certain that the recipient of our award will make an impact on the industry,” he added.
The final winner will be announced at the WGSN Global Fashion Awards on May 14 at The Park Lane Hotel in London.
