The lingerie industry outperformed the total online sector in Q1 2015, according to figures obtained by Lingerie Insight.
Lingerie sales online grew 19% during the first three months of the year – far ahead of the market as a whole and an improvement on Q1 2014, when lingerie sales were up 16%, according to IMRG, the UK’s industry association for e-retail.
Overall, the online retail sector suffered an unexpected downturn in Q1, climbing just 7%, compared to 17% growth in Q1 2014.
Commenting on the results, IMRG insight editor Andy Mulcahy said: “Lingerie has been a consistently strong performer in our index over recent years – with growth for the sector usually a few points above that of clothing generally.
“The exception was 2013, when it was the strongest-performing sector in our index that year – with sales growth over double that of clothing.”
